"J.J. Henry was highlight and absolutely hilarious" *****

Christmas time is upon us again and to get us in the mood, it's Panto time at the Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury. Oh no it isn't! Oh, yes, it is!

2016's festive treat is Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood. Robin Hood (Matt Beveridge) and Maid Marion (Rachael Henley) had great chemistry and beautiful vocals as they performed a variety of wonderful songs.

Completing their band of merry men were Friar Tuck (Ben Eagle) and Little Joan (Charlotte Chalkey) who provided great comedic support.

There was singing, dancing, jokes, and great audience participation including some rather large boulders. The pantomime at The Roses just keeps improving every year and this year being no exception. This year's performance was the 'baddies panto'. Jeffrey Harmer stole the show with his villainous Sheriff of Nottingham. Harmer looked like he enjoyed every single boo and hiss he received from the audience. Harmer worked a great double act alongside the simple and very funny Dennis (Michael Watson- Gray).

Every panto needs a dame, J.J Henry starred as the larger-than-life and fabulous Winnie Widebottom. Winnie by name and Widebottom . . . well as her other name.

The highlight for me was her wonderful striptease which had me crying with laughter. Absolutely hilarious.

The sets were impressive and each cast member was amazing. The classic tale of Robin Hood and his merry men hit the spot. Was wonderful to see the local children from the audience getting up on the stage to perform I Am The Music Man, great fun to be had by all.

I have never seen a child have so much fun with a big bass drum. I do love the pantomime because it truly has something for everyone, young and old this truly was a magical evening for all the family. Sweet treats were provided for the audience as Robin Hood and his gang robbed from the rich to give to the poor.

Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood is running at the Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury until January 7 2017.

My own band of merry men had so much fun, big thumbs up from us. Well done to all and Merry Christmas.
